ICR batteries... all protected?
Just a quick question...

Do all ICR batteries have inbuilt protection? A google search has proved inconclusive.

I ask because the 18350 batteries supplied with my Vamo are unbranded ICR batteries. I tend to use my Panasonic CGR18650CH usually, but to use the full power potential of the Vamo with my dual-coil Phoenix, I have been using the 18350s stacked (after taking appropriate precautions of course) to avoid hitting the amp limit. I am curious as to if they are protected or not. I suspect that they are but want a second opinion.

RE: ICR batteries... all protected?
Easy to check (ish).

Protected batteries have a small circuit board that you you can feel the ridge on at the top or bottom of the battery, and have a thin strip about 2 mil wide running from the top to the bottom of the battery - easily visible through the plastic.

However - some really crap naffer chinese fake batteries copy this - but it is not effective - so buyer beware.

If you want protected, buy a quality brand. Otherwise, even if it says protected, it probably isn;t worth a damn.

Also, if stacking, you MUST keep the batteries in a pair from new. Anything else is asking for trouble. Like fire. Bad.

Yeah I'm aware of all the precautions for stacking. The batteries are married, never used alone, voltage always checked fresh off the charge to make sure they're within 0.1V of each other.

RE: ICR batteries... all protected?
cool - well the straight answer to the 'do all ICRs have protection' is a NO.

If it doesn't say protected, then it isn't. Both types are widely available, more common for them not to be protected TBH.

RE: ICR batteries... all protected?
After more googling, I've found the batteries online and apparently they are protected. I'll take it as a given that it probably isn't worth much though.

These are the exact same batteries that shipped with the Vamo.
