New dual coil dripper, no vapor
Hey folks,

Just got a new dripper, a trident clone. First build on it, went quite well I thought, coils not as close as I'd have liked, but I've done a lot worse. 0.25mm kanthal, came out at 1.3Ohm, just around what I was looking. Same size coil as I use in the kayfun, same amount of cotton. Thought it was looking pretty good, but it took a surprisingly long time to heat up, and produces no vapour at all for about 5 seconds, then you get a trickle.

Both coils are definitely clear of the deck, they have cotton tucked underneath for more coil-wick contact. Contacts are tight, tried it on several mods, new batteries on mechs and regulated @10W, still not much vapour. Tried various combinations of airholes, but I doubt that's the problem as even without the cap off, there's really nothing.

Kind of at a loss to explain this. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Baps.

Edit: included pic, not great but thought it wouldn't hurt.

You've coiled two 2.6ohm coils for 1.3ohms in total? That'll be why it's not heating up. You're spreading the power between two coils. You either need to drop the resistance for use in the mech (closer to 1 ohm total) or up the power on your regulated device.

Try a single coil at 1.3 ohms rather than two at 2.6ohms for an unregulated mech - 2.6 ohm coils on a mech just aren't going to work.

10 watts is only 5 watts for each coil - also a bit low for silica or cotton wick drippers imo, though you might get away with it with mesh/genisis.

The other problem could be that you do not have your air holes lined up with the coils ?

Damn, it's the power. Tastes awesome at 15W! Thanks guys.

I'm right in thinking the AW IMR 18350's have an amp limit of 6A? So I should absolutely not go below 0.8Ohm with those right? Or would I be better ensuring not less than 1Ohm for safety? Power be ok at 1Ohm or should I look at other batteries?

Yes - bigger batteries, becuase there really isn't anything better than AW IMRs in 18350, though there are better alternatives to AW in bigger batteries - but Poo is the expert on that. Smiling But if you like the smaller size of 18350s, just use single coils.

Sylvie is being kind, but I can point you in the right direction Smiling

Samsung-INR18650-20R are good down to 0.21ohms and have 2000mah. They're great batteries but probably overkill.

The Panasonic NCR18650PD is probably a smarter bet, good down to 0.42ohms with a 2900mah capacity. You can buy them here, he's a trusted seller -

The pannys are great batts and give me best part of a day. Which is actually quite an achievement with the batshit stuff we build Smiling

Awesome! Now I have a reason to get a new mech too!

Many thanks guys, I think I'll just get the Panasonics, I'm not building poocoils!

I run my trident in single coil mode with 18350s at 1ohm with the 2mm air hole - no issues, loads of vapour. I've got the Panasonic 10A batteries from the same seller as well and I can confirm they are terrific.
