Where do I start?
Sorry I need a bit of guidance. Mainly about where is trust worthy to procure the necessary supplies - I've read through a few threads and I've found a lot of dead links!

I currently vape sub-ohm .. Cleito tank on an Aspire something or other mod. I tend to favour high VG e-liquid. And I'm usually at 1.5 - 3mg of Nicotine.

I'm tired of sweet flavourings that seem to cake the coil in sugar in next to no time.

I'm tempted to mix something that is either flavourless, save for natural sweetness of the VG and whatever nicotine I can taste. Or is lightly flavoured - I get on okay with Liquid Rage's heisenborg (Blueberry, Raspberry, Eucalyptus, Menthol) but sometimes I find it a bit strong and it's not consistently stocked at my local vape shop/on-line.

I was thinking of buying a pre-mixed based and adding a nic shot to it. Is that a good place to start? Or should I buy some VG/PG and start mixing myself from scratch? (I happen to have a good stock of de-ionised water for thinning it down).

Any recommendations appreciated, both for starting out and trustworthy/value for money retailers of DIY supplies.

Sincerely, thanks in advance for your help.

RE: Where do I start?
Darkstar is a decent source of PG and VG along with premixed base liquid. They also sell packs of 18 nic shots for £16, but are beaten on price by lucemill (20 for £13.50).

http://www.darkstarvapour.co.uk

Buying separate PG and VG would give you a little more control over the mix, but if you have a preference (like 70VG/30PG) the premixed base could be simpler, as they offer nic shots in matching ratios.

ie: take a 60ml bottle, pour/syringe in 50ml of 70/30 basemix, add an 18mg 70/30 nic shot and you'd have 60ml of 3mg 70/30 unflavoured liquid.

RE: Where do I start?
the main issue with sub ohm isn't as much the flavours as the high VG as both can screw with your coils as both contain natural sugars which build up on the coil,
not only that but sub ohm kits tend to plough through juice at a right rate of knot's anyway, you might want to consider an RBA and learn to build your own coils as this cuts the costs of a coil from a couple
££ to a few pence? just do your homework and make sure your up to speed with battery safety and ohms law,

even if you did buy say a 100ml of your preferred concentrate and mix @ 20% that would potentially give you 500 ml of completed liquid which would sugar your coils at the same rate as you currently get, some liquids run cleaner like menthol's especially if you mix your own concentrate from crystals so its unsweetened,

you could try blending at 10% concentrate and see if that adds any longevity to the coil or even as you suggested just an unflavoured mix and see what impact that has although i dont see the gains being that big tbh.

there are loads of places that sell concentrates and you will no doubt get advice on plenty from everyone that comments,

or there are plenty of short fills on the market so you could purchase one of those and add your nic shots then cut by 50% with an unflavoured mix at the same blend/strength etc and see how you get on with that?

Thank you all for the great feedback and advice.

Konky - Point taken about de-ionised water!!!! Smiling
@rattspitt - That looks good - I'll get an order placed tonight

Jazzy J - I've found coil longevity varies hugely with what I'm vaping. If I'm on menthol/eucalyptous flavours it will usually last a month. Where as, sweet flavours like lemon custard donut will last a week. If mixing my own e-liquid doesn't help, I'll start looking at an RBA - I figured even changing the cotton every few days would probably make a big difference.

changing the cotton will help, also depending on what your coil is made from you can dry burn the sugar crust off and then re use the same coil for months lol

dry burning is an old school vape trick that some still use today, this was before temp sensing coils were on the market and some coils can NOT be dry burned as they generate some nasty shit on them if you do so again do a little research and make sure you know your stuff before you start dry burning lol,

I use Kanthal wire (not TC) and always dry burn a few times at least between coil changes. Some tanks have the coil inside the shell (mini protank and Joyetech CLR) and I sometimes change the coil to allow a good clean-out of the coil shell. Otherwise I leave until the coil looks pitted or tatty.
