If it's a sprint finish, it must be Marcel Kittel, and so it proved today. Expect more of the same tomorrow.

The race burst into life today with Romain Bardet taking the stage win and Fabio Aru taking the ove the yellow jersey ao race leader, but all eyes were looking back down the road at a struggling Chris Froome, who wasn't even the best placed Sky rider, finishing eighth. Tomorrow's stage is short and takes in 3 first category climbs. It will be flat out from the start and anything can happen

General Classification after Stage 12
1 ARU, Fabio (ASTANA) 52:51:49
2 FROOME, Christopher (SKY) + 6
3 BARDET, Romain (AG2R LA MONDIALE) + 25
4 URAN URAN, Rigoberto (CANNONDALE DRAPAC) + 55
5 MARTIN, Daniel (QUICK - STEP FLOORS) + 1:41
6 YATES, Simon (ORICA - SCOTT) + 2:13
7 LANDA MEANA, Mikel (SKY) + 2:55
8 QUINTANA, Nairo (MOVISTAR) + 4:01
9 BENNETT, George (LOTTO NL - JUMBO) + 4:24
10 MEINTJES, Louis (UAE Team Emirates) + 4:51

Warren Barguil made up for the disappointment of being pipped on the line the other day by becoming the first Frenchman for 12 years to win a stage on Bastille day.
Strange tactics by Sky saw Landa driving the leading group while Froome and Kwiatkowski led the chase, and probably cost them the chance of regaining the yellow jersey.
A lumpy stage with an uphill finish tomorrow should suit the likes of Greg Vanavermaet or Phillipe Gilbert...or maybe Dan Martin.
Landa moved up to fourth place while Quintana closed the gap to just over two minutes on the leader, which should majke for an interesting final week.

General Classification after Stage 13:
1 ARU, Fabio (ASTANA) 55:30:06
2 FROOME, Christopher (SKY) + 6
3 BARDET, Romain (AG2R LA MONDIALE) + 25
4 URAN URAN, Rigoberto (CANNONDALE DRAPAC) + 35
5 LANDA MEANA, Mikel (SKY) + 1:09
6 MARTIN, Daniel (QUICK - STEP FLOORS) + 1:32
7 YATES, Simon (ORICA - SCOTT) + 2:04
8 QUINTANA, Nairo (MOVISTAR) + 2:07
9 MEINTJES, Louis (UAE Team Emirates) + 4:51
10 CONTADOR VELASCO, Alberto (TREK - SEGAFREDO) + 5:22

Michael Matthews takes victory in today's stage as Chris Froome takes back the yellow jersey. No other changes in the overall classification as the other contenders finished in the same group as Froome. Matthews will fancy his chances in tomorrow's stage, even though there are two first category climbs. Froome will have to be on his toes as there are likely to be attacks on the final climb.

A heroic effort saw Bauke Mollema take victory in today's stage while Chris Froome survived a late mechanical problem and Dan Martin moved up a place to fifth with a late attack which leaves him just 1:12 off the lead. Nairo Quintana dropped out of the top ten and out of contention.

General Classification after Stage 15
1 FROOME, Christopher (SKY) 64:40:21
2 ARU, Fabio (ASTANA) + 18
3 BARDET, Romain (AG2R LA MONDIALE) + 23

A week ago Marcel Kittel looked like he already had the green points jersey wrapped up, but struggling on the first climb today after only 20K, Kittel could do nothing to stop Michael Matthews from taking the intermediate sprint and the stage win. Tomorrow could see Matthews close within a few points of the green jersey.
In the overall, Dan Martin was a big loser, losing contact in the crosswinds that hit in the last 20K, Dan slipped a couple of places, with Mikel Landa and Simon Yates moving up a place.

General Classification after Stage 16

1 FROOME, Christopher (SKY) 68:18:36
2 ARU, Fabio (ASTANA) + 18
3 BARDET, Romain (AG2R LA MONDIALE) + 23
4 URAN URAN, Rigoberto (CANNONDALE DRAPAC) + 29
5 LANDA MEANA, Mikel (SKY) + 1:17
6 YATES, Simon (ORICA - SCOTT) + 2:02
7 MARTIN, Daniel (QUICK - STEP FLOORS) + 2:03
8 MEINTJES, Louis (UAE Team Emirates) + 6:00
9 CARUSO, Damiano (BMC RACING) + 6:05
10 QUINTANA, Nairo (MOVISTAR) + 6:16

Tomorrow the race tackles the Croix de Fer, Col du Telegraph and the Galibier.Expect a big shake up.

Today's jaunt over the Alps saw a re-shuffle in the podium places behind Chris Froome with Rigoberto Uran and Romain Bardet now tied in second place.
Marcel Kittel crashed out early in the bstage leaving Michael Matthews leading the green jersey competition.

Warren Barguil produced the best performance of the race, storming up the Izoard to take his second stage win and wrap up the king of the mountains competition. We haven't seen a pure climber with the abality to win the Tour for many a year, but Barguil may be that man.
Chris Froome keeps hold of the yellow jersey with Bardet taking four bonus seconds for third place edged ahead of Uran. It looks like Froome may have the race wrapped up, but tomorrow's stage could be tricky if the likes of Dan Martin has anything left in his legs.

General Classification after Stage 18
1 FROOME, Christopher (SKY) 78:08:19

After a few near misses in the sprints, Edvald Boasson Hagen went for a solo win on the longest stage of the race.
